In this potential video series I explain how I map Maschine Mikro to Ableton Live’s drum rack, and how to sample video clips live.

To create a drum rack with multiple samples aka mega drum rack aka a “128″ just look it up on youtube as there are plenty of tutorials already on that subject.

Also video sampling will work with Live 8, not just 9

Introducing “Video Sampling”, where video is sampled just as audio would be, and combined with a live performance. In this set, I use an Akai MPD24 to trigger video samples and VST instruments in Ableton Live 9. The sliders and knobs are mapped to different volumes and effects, allowing me full control over the performance.

Video sampling, in depth:
I use the clip launcher/session view in Ableton to launch small chops/pieces of video clips. These clips are mapped to the pads on my MPD. When I record my performance in to arrangement view, the video tracks are recorded as I had played them, and I am able to render the video alongside the audio with everything synced up automatically.

I shot and edited this video for my track ‘Time Machine’ off of the album of the same name.

A piece of my set from January 17th at College Street Bar in Toronto (Memorecks x Dead Horse Beats x Weight Of Though). Featuring Tyler Nelson on sax. This section in particular was improv and something I did at the end of a track. For the set i’m using a Korg microKey, Novation Launchpad, Maschine Mikro and an iPad running Lemur controlling Ableton Live.

Here’s a jam i’ve been working on for a while that I can never get perfect. Excuse the mistakes! All triggered live via Ableton Live.. Named after my reluctant purple and lime green paint job.
